20 Tips for (the rest of) 2020 #1

With the start of a new school year, I'm trying to see it as the start of a new remainder of 2020, so I'm providing some tips to help you relax and stay healthy.

Tip #1: Communication is key between therapist and client. Your massage should never hurt but should also feel like something is happening. Everybody's tolerance is different, and not every therapist realizes how heavy or light-handed they are based on each individual's preferences. Don't be afraid to communicate with your therapist if the massage isn't the pressure you want. Sometimes people are afraid to speak up about a massage that is too deep because they are afraid they won't get the relief they want, and likewise they worry that if they ask for more pressure, it will hurt. Massage is very personalized, so especially if you are working with a new therapist who you haven't seen before, communication is very important so that they can learn just what you need. Speak up if you need to. It will ultimately be best for both of you.
